Personal transport budget payments

The payment that you will receive is based on:

  • A fixed payment of £500 per annum
  • Plus a mileage rate of 45p x 4 trips per day

The amount is determined by the number of days travelling per week and the distance from the child or young person’s home address to their school.

An example of a personal transport budget payment based on a home-school distance of 5 miles:

Fixed rate of £500
5 miles x 0.45p x 4 trips = £9
£9 x 190 school days = £1710
Fixed rate (£500) plus mileage (£1710)
Annual PTB = £2210

For fairness and consistency - all personal transport budget distance calculations are measured by the software used by the Council for assessing your child’s eligibility for transport assistance.

How is the payment made

Personal transport budget is paid, in advance, into a nominated bank account every calendar month.   In exceptional circumstances, alternative payment arrangements may be made by agreement between you and the Council.

Please note - Payments made are subject to review and all changes in circumstance should be reported - Read Review and Changes for full information.
