School based nurseries

Nursery classes provide early education and childcare for children between three and four years old.

Nursery classes are open during school hours in term time for full or half-day sessions.  They offer children learning and development activities suitable for their age which are based on the Early Years Foundation Stage.

The sessions are offered as part of the funded early education entitlement.  With some schools offering additional sessions to those who are eligible for the extended entitlement of 30 hours free early education.

The nursery setting is registered with Ofsted under the school's registration and are inspected by Ofsted.

Leicester does not have any nursery schools.  However most schools in Leicester admit children to their nursery classes from the term after their third birthday.  To register for a place in the school based nursery, contact the school directly.  The schools' directory has details of all schools in Leicester.

A child registered in a school based nursery does not have a guaranteed place in the school.  The school admissions process will still apply for your child to go into the reception class in the autumn term after their fourth birthday.  A few schools offer childcare for children before and/or after school and/or during the school holidays.
