Request an education health care needs assessment (EHCNA)
If you feel that your child or young person may need an EHC plan you, the school or the young person (if they are over 16) can make a request for a statutory assessment.
Before making the request have a conversation with the school SENCO to discuss the support that has been put into place, the progress made and next steps.
How do you decide whether to carry out an EHCNA
Once a request has been made, Leicester City Council will look at the following to decide if an assessment is needed:
- The child or young person’s skills, abilities, and rate of progress.
- The support the school or college has provided.
- What difference the support has made.
- The child or young person’s physical, emotional, social development and health needs.
